Happy Summer Solstice!
Summer has officially arrived, it's Father's Day here in the U.S., and we've just completed our third weekend as The River Runs Through Farmhouse Store & Coffee Shop.
The season has certainly started with plenty of rain. That's not entirely foreign to those of us in Maine, though it does seem the sun prefers to come out on days we're closed. Fortunately, we've also been blessed with some beautiful, temperate days in between.
We'd like to thank everyone who has stopped by to support us, lingered for a chat, or been excited to watch our coffee offerings expand. Let's be honest—if you stay awhile, there's a good chance Rob will happily discuss just about anything.
We've also been delighted by the response to our small-batch, natural products. The sunscreen has passed the real-world test (always reassuring), and the facial moisturizer and Aura Sprays have developed a following of their own. Aura Spray, in particular, has surprised us. While originally created for energetic clearing, many people are enjoying it simply as a natural air freshener or light personal scent.
And yes—the view really is that beautiful. There are also trails through the property that lead down to the river, and you're welcome to come explore them.
Whether we're open or not, the days have been full. We're learning what people love most. So far the winners seem to be cold brew, iced coffee, and a straightforward hot pour-over. Banana bread remains a favorite, along with the chocolate chip cookie bars that somehow manage to be both delicious and reasonably nutritious, thanks to oat flour, garbanzo bean flour, whole grains, and protein.
What have we learned otherwise?
Apparently Monroe is not a tea-drinking town.
Not a single order.
I can practically hear my family in Scotland shaking their heads in disappointment. And no scones either.
In response, I believe it's time to introduce carrot bread.
We end this weekend feeling deeply grateful—for the support, the conversations, the curiosity, and the opportunity to create this little gathering place.
Happy Summer Solstice. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. My own father is visiting for a few more days, so stop by if you'd like to meet him.
Keep spreading the word, and we'll keep making the coffee.
See what finds you.
