A New Aura Spray Has Been Born

A new Aura Spray has been born.

If you're wondering, "What exactly is an Aura Spray?" don't worry—you've joined the club.

Before I stepped into the world of shamanism, I'd never even heard of one. Smudging? Sure. Burning herbs and smoke, I understood. But a spray?

Then someone mentioned Florida Water.

That didn't help at all.

My first thought was, "Does this have something to do with the Fountain of Youth?" As far as I knew, people had looked for that in Florida and hadn't found it.

Then came the instructions.

"Spray it on your hands. Run your hands over your body."

"Spray your crystals."

At that point, I simply nodded and thought, Well...I clearly have entered a world I know very little about.

So I went home and did some reading.

Florida Water is a citrus-based cologne that dates back to the early 1800s. Over time, it became part of many spiritual traditions, particularly in African diasporic and folk practices, where it was used for cleansing, blessing, and ritual.

That made a lot more sense.

Aura Sprays are, in many ways, a form of aromatherapy. They offer a gentle way to enjoy herbs and botanicals without smoke. As much as I love Grandfather Fire, he's a little unpredictable—and breathing smoke isn't always ideal.

You could certainly blend essential oils, but I wanted to create something different.

My Aura Sprays begin with fresh herbs from my garden—mint, lavender, rosemary, and roses. (I still have to buy the bay leaves, cinnamon, and cloves. Maine and cinnamon trees simply aren't on speaking terms.)

Everything is placed into a large glass vessel and left to develop over the course of a moon cycle. I check in with it. Stir it. Smell it. Occasionally add another herb. It's become one of my favorite spiritual and creative practices—a quiet ritual of intention and patience.

The "birth" is the messy part.

I strain the herbs, add distilled water, sanitize every bottle by hand, fill each one individually, attach the spray tops, label them...and try very hard not to wear half the batch myself.

I'm getting better.

Every bottle carries the scents of the herbs, the season, the moon cycle, and the intention with which it was made.

In the end, my Aura Spray is simply a gift...

...from my heart to yours.
